Mailbag

Orioles’ Mailbag: Why do the Orioles wear the black jerseys so often?

Every weekday, I’ll be answering at least one Orioles question. If you’d like to submit a question, send it to: Rich@BaltimoreBaseball.com. Questions may be edited for clarity, length and style.

Question:  Why have the Orioles been wearing the black jerseys with the O’s scrip hat so often? It is my least favorite, especially after all we had to go through to get Baltimore on our chest. The orange Saturday jersey is fire and should never be opted out of. From: Daniel Beck

Answer: Daniel, your question is one reason I enjoy doing this mailbag so much. I think I notice a lot at the ballpark, but I readily acknowledge that I pay little attention to the color uniforms the Orioles wear. Jay from Fredericksburg, Virginia is also puzzled about the uniform selection.

The starting pitcher generally, but not always, gets to pick the uniform color. Grayson Rodriguez, in particular, is fond of those black jerseys you dislike.

Every Friday home game, they’ll be wearing their “City Connect” jerseys, which are popular with some fans and not as popular with others.

I’ll try to keep a closer eye on the jersey colors they’re wearing.

Question: The Orioles haven’t been swept in  99 consecutive regular-season series, fourth longest streak in baseball history. Can you list the teams, years of streak and the number of consecutive series without being swept of the three teams ahead of the Orioles? From: Knaubcpa

Answer: The three teams with longer sweepless streaks than the Orioles are the 1942-44 St. Louis Cardinals (124), 1906-09 Chicago Cubs (115) and the 1903-05 New York  Giants (105).
