BALTIMORE—Infielder Coby Mayo will be recalled from Triple-A Norfolk and join the Orioles on Saturday. Mayo is needed because Ramón Urías was scratched from Friday’s lineup with right hamstring tightness.
The move was reported by The Baltimore Sun and confirmed by an industry source.
Mayo was batting .252 with six home runs and 22 RBIs at Norfolk, and he’s started 13 games at both first and third base.
Last year, Mayo was just 4-for-41 (.098) with 22 strikeouts in two stints with the Orioles.
Mayo was disappointed in March when he was optioned to Norfolk, calling the move a “lose-lose” situation.
Assuming Urías is sent to the IL, he’d become the 14th Oriole on the injured list. Infielder Jordan Westburg is also on the IL with a hamstring injury. Emmanuel Rivera’s contract was purchased on Monday when Westburg went on the injured list.
