Orioles extend qualifying offers to Burnes, Santander

As expected, the Orioles extended $21.05 million qualifying offers to their top starter in 2024, Corbin Burnes, and their leading home run hitter, rightfielder Anthony Santander.

Burnes and Santander have until November 19th to accept or reject the offers. They’ve expected to reject them.

Burnes was 15-9 with a 2.92 ERA in 34 starts, and is expected to receive some Cy Young Award votes.

Santander hit 44 home runs, seventh-most in club history, with 102 RBIs. He hit .235 with an .814 OPS. He was named a finalist as an outfielder in the Silver Slugger Awards on Monday.

If Burnes and Santander sign elsewhere, the Orioles will receive a compensatory draft pick.

Note: The Orioles selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Luis González from Triple-A Norfolk. The 32-year-old was 5-3 with a 4.50 ERA and two saves with Norfolk in 2024. González, who was also in the Orioles organization from 2013-2019, has never played in the major leagues in a professional career that began in 2010.

The Orioles’ 40-man roster has 37 players.
