Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson will take part in the Home Run Derby on July 15th at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas. Henderson announced it when he was being interviewed during the second inning of the Orioles-Rangers telecast on ESPN Sunday night.
Henderson, who was the leading vote-getter among shortstops in the first phase of voting, will be the second Oriole in as many years to be a contestant in the Home Run Derby. Catcher Adley Rutschman hit 27 home runs as a switch-hitter in the derby last year but lost in the first round to the White Sox’s Louis Robert Jr., who hit 28. Rutschman’s dad, Randy, was his pitcher.
