Orioles will play Red Sox in Little League Classic in 2022

The Orioles and Boston Red Sox will play in next season’s Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pennsylvania on August 21, 2022, Major League Baseball announced on Sunday.

It will be scheduled as a home game for the Orioles and will air on ESPN TV at 7 p.m. The teams were scheduled to play in the game in 2020, but it was canceled because of the pandemic.

“We are thrilled to have been selected to participate in the Little League Classic next year,” said Mike Elias, Orioles executive vice president and general manager. “Our players and staff were very much looking forward to spending time with the next generation of players and fans at the 2020 event prior to its cancellation, so to have the opportunity to compete against the Red Sox next season at Historic Bowman Field while supporting the commissioner’s efforts to grow the game is a tremendous honor for our club.”

Before the game, Orioles and Red Sox players will attend Little League World Series, and Little League players and their families will attend the Orioles-Red Sox game.

The Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Angels are playing in this year’s game. The series began in 2017.

    • The Orioles should take notes as they watch the Little League World Series. They can pick up some pointers.

  • As much, or maybe as little I should say, that the O’s seem to care about their fan base, what remains of it, they’ll probably choose that date let AR make his debut.

  • The O's are horrible, their owners don't care about winning or their fans, the GM isn't very smart, Hyde should be fired, our coaches are horrible, Stewart should be DFA'd, it's appropriate the O's will be playing in a game with "Little League" in the title next year, GRod gave up 5 ER in 3.2 IP today, the dark bleak sky is falling and falling fast, and I see no hope - none whatsoever - in the future for the O's. Thank goodness we have the sharp comments on here on the BB board to distract us from this disaster. Nailed it!

    • Stewart has shown enough of the wrong things over and over to say enough. Someone on another site said he should wear his helmet in the field to protect his noggin! LOL!!!

    • I know it wasn't your intention, but there is a lot of truth in your sarcasm.

Consider reading Ken Rosenthal's "These Orioles Show How Badly MLB Needs Anti-Tanking Measures" - just out today.

Just as you are free to blindly follow the Elias "plan" others can question how the current state of the organization can be deemed acceptable.

  • Rich, Thanks very much for all your work keeping us informed of all of the Orioles current events. Even 7:00 on Sunday night.

  • If the O's actually played a Little League team, I'd bet on the Little League team for the win!

  • The Chicago Cubs gut their roster and knowingly sell their customers an inferior product. The Baltimore Orioles have been doing the same the last 3 years.

Major League Baseball punishes both franchises by giving them nationally televised showcase games in 2022.

But MLB is losing market share because there aren’t enough bat flips. Right.

    • Because the O’s drafted him in the 1st round of the 2015 draft. That’s what we’ve heard in the past. I’m still incredulous he’s here and Ryan McKenna is not, but I’m just watchin the tube like everyone else.

    • The only thing I can figure is that they can't give up on a #1 no matter how bad he is both offensively and defensivly.
He's just mixed in with the other minor leaguers on this team so they figure no one will notice. Hay's has to play everyday.
