Orioles announce 2021 Grapefruit League schedule; Pitchers, catchers report February 16th

FREE ARTICLE

The Orioles are scheduled to begin their 2021 Grapefruit League season against the Atlanta Braves on February 27th at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Florida.

They’re scheduled to play 16 home games against Atlanta, Tampa Bay, the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Boston, Minnesota, Detroit and Toronto.

Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report on February 16th, position players on February 21st. The first full-squad workout is scheduled for February 22nd.

Their final spring home game is scheduled for March 27th against the Twins. The final game in Florida is scheduled for March 28 at Boston’s JetBlue Park in Fort Myers.

The Orioles are scheduled to open the regular season on April 1st against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Because of the pandemic, this past spring training ended on March 12th, and the Orioles’ scheduled game against the New York Mets at Navy was canceled. With three open dates between the final Grapefruit League game and Opening Day, the Orioles could try to reschedule their game at the academy.

The Braves, Rays, Yankees, Pirates, Red Sox, Twins and Phillies each will play twice in Sarasota.

The Orioles are scheduled for two trips to play at the Red Sox, and their nearby neighbors in Fort Myers, the Twins. They’ll also make two trips to Port Charlotte against the Rays, and two each to neighboring Bradenton against the Pirates, Tampa against the Yankees, North Port against Atlanta and Lakeland against the Tigers.

In 2019, the Orioles and the Tigers didn’t play each other for the first time since spring training was moved to Sarasota in 2010.

There are three split-squads on the schedule. On spring training’s second day, February 28th, the Orioles are scheduled to play Tampa Bay at home and Minnesota on the road. On March 17th, the Orioles are scheduled to play the Red Sox at home and the Tigers on the road. And, on March 24th, the Orioles are scheduled to play the Braves in Sarasota and Pittsburgh on the road.

There are no scheduled trips to Florida’s East Coast in 2021. The Orioles’ only spring off day is scheduled for March 10th.

Game times have not been announced.

  • I don’t think I’ll care until I hear that the Ironbirds will be playing again and that I can have a beer and a hot dog IN THE STANDS (and sans mask)!

  • That news is not interesting to me at all...
this season has been an experiment to see if we could still have an interest in baseball, and I think it has been a nice distraction to watch on TV, but it’s hard to really commit and get super excited when there’s no fans and you cannot attend a game! Virus sucks.

  • Why don’t they just play the Yankees & Rays the whole spring training & regular season...I get sick of seeing them...go O’s...

    • It’s just a distraction for all of us during this pandemic! If we were to win a World Series championship this season, I don’t think any of us would really consider it a legitimate hard core, real championship?
This season is just for fun and to break the boredom?

  • No trips to Florida east coast that’s bad for me. This spring it was a pleasure seeing them in West Palm. Sarasota is too far for a day trip but I love the city.

  • Does anybody notice that Iglesias the shortstop has been playing with a lot more pep in his step and enthusiasm over the last 3 games ?
I’m thinking that he might ,and management might , consider our shortstop
    for trade bait ?

  • Oh Em Gee, I cannot believe that our friend Cedric M. , Is not in the game tonight against the Braves? He’s been considered for player of the week, and he’s not in the game? Well I guess we have to take a look at everybody during our rebuilding?

  • This #45 Akin has a Roger Clemens look alike face, and a very Greg Maddox
wind up/mechanics! # 45 also has very good accuracy and good control !
He might be a potential great one ?

  • At 9:23 PM. It looks like Severino the catcher hurt his left hand during his slide to the plate? He’s hiding it but I saw him go immediately to the trainer? Oh.

  • For about the last 2-3 weeks has anyone else noticed how really bad defensively Severino has become....go O’s...
