The Orioles have hired Darren Holmes as their new bullpen coach. This presumably rounds out their 2020 coaching staff.
Holmes, who pitched five games for the Orioles in 2000, was the Colorado Rockies bullpen coach the last five seasons.
News of Holmes’ hiring was reported by MASNsports.com and confirmed by an industry source.
Holmes, who will be the only former Oriole on the eight-man staff, replaces John Wasdin.
He’s one of three new coaches, joining former Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez and Anthony Sanders, who also worked in the Rockies’ organization.
Gonzalez will replace Jose Hernandez as major league coach. Hernandez will replace Howie Clark as assistant hitting coach. Sanders replaces Arnie Beyeler as first base and outfield coach.
The holdover coaches are Doug Brocail (pitching), Tim Cossins (catching and major league field coordinator), Jose Flores (infield and first base) and Don Long (hitting).
An announcement by the Orioles hasn’t been made, and precise roles have yet to confirmed.
Former Frederick pitching coach Justin Lord has been hired by the Washington Nationals as High-A Potomac’s pitching coach.
