Orioles report to spring training on February 11, play home opener on February 23

If you’re already looking forward to spending some time in spring training to prepare for the 2020 season, you can firm up your plans.

The Orioles open spring training in Sarasota, Florida on February 11 when pitchers and catchers report.

Their first game is on Saturday, February 22, in North Port, Florida, the Atlanta Braves’ new spring training facility. Their home opener is on February 23 against the Boston Red Sox at Ed Smith Stadium.

The Orioles will play 16 home games against 10 opponents. For the second time in the last three years, the Orioles will have a road trip to Florida’s East Coast, when they play the Washington Nationals in West Palm Beach on March 3 and the Miami Marlins in Jupiter on March 4.

It will be their first visit to the facility shared by the Nationals and Houston Astros, and the first spring training road game against Washington since 2009, when the Orioles were in Fort Lauderdale and that Nationals were in Viera.

The Orioles have three split-squad dates — February 25 when they host Tampa Bay and travel to Boston; March 14 when they’re at Atlanta and are at home against Pittsburgh; and March 21 when the Red Sox come to Sarasota, and they’re at Boston.

For the first time since they moved to Sarasota in 2010, the Orioles won’t play the Detroit Tigers, who are based in Lakeland, Florida.

The final Florida game is scheduled for March 22 in Sarasota against the Phillies.

The Orioles open the regular season at home on March 26 against the New York Yankees.
