Orioles send Povich to Norfolk, recall Cam Sanders; Bassitt expected to join rotation

MINNEAPOLIS—The Orioles on Monday sent left-handed starter Cade Povich to Triple-A Norfolk. The move came after Sunday’s game in Texas when Povich allowed three runs on four hits in three innings.

Povich, who’s 2-1 with a 4.45 ERA in seven games, six starts, missed much of the season with left elbow inflammation. He has made two starts since his recall from Norfolk. On August 4th, he pitched six scoreless innings, giving up seven hits.

Right-hander Chris Bassitt, who’s been on the 60-day injured list after back surgery, is expected to replace Povich in the rotation. Bassitt made three rehab starts for Norfolk. On Friday, Bassitt threw six scoreless innings, giving up three hits.

Right-hander Cam Sanders has been recalled from Norfolk. Sanders retired all five batters he faced on July 17th and 18th at Houston, earning a win and a save, striking out two.
