Orioles activate Kremer to start against White Sox, option Gibson and Walker, recall Weston

BALTIMORE—Dean Kremer was activated from the 60-day injured list and will be the Orioles’ starting pitcher against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. Kremer had been on the IL with a strained right quadriceps muscle and starts for the third time this season.

His last start came on April 18th at Cleveland when Kremer allowed three runs on two hits in six innings.

“Dean’s been here, great veteran presence, great baseball mind, the way he goes about his business,” manager Craig Albernaz said. “He’s also a really good pitcher, and to have him back, it means a lot. His presence has been felt the past couple of days, being around here, being around the guys and the rest of the pitching group.”

The Orioles optioned right-hander Trey Gibson, who allowed eight runs on eight hits in 2 2/3 innings on Tuesday night to Triple-A Norfolk. They also optioned left-hander Josh Walker, who pitched in the first two games of the series, to Norfolk.

Needing an extra arm, the Orioles recalled right-hander Cameron Weston from Norfolk.

To make room for Kremer on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated catcher Dom Keegan for assignment. They claimed Keegan off waivers on Sunday.

Notes: The Orioles will start Trevor Rogers, Brandon Young and Kyle Bradish against the Cincinnati Reds in the series that begins on Friday night. The Reds haven’t announced their starters. Sunday’s game will be shown exclusively on Peacock. … Double-A Chesapeake left-hander Joseph Dzierwa and High-A Frederick first baseman/outfielder Ike Irish were named to the American League team for the Futures game to be played in Philadelphia on July 12th. … Taylor Ward is hitting third for the first time this season.
