CLEVELAND—Catcher Adley Rutschman, who’s on the 10-day injured list with left ankle inflammation, is eligible to return on Tuesday. He’s not sure when he’ll be back.

Rutschman has been on the IL since last Saturday.

“I noticed it on Friday,” he said. “Didn’t really notice it afterwards. Saturday it was bad.”

Manager Craig Albernaz has been monitoring his progress.

“He had a great work day today,” Albernaz said. “Change in direction running. He caught [Trevor] Rogers’ side [session]. He had a great day hitting. He’s trending back to where he should be.”

Albernaz isn’t sure about a rehab assignment.

“We working through that now as far as what that looks like, the time component,” Albernaz said. “With minor leagues having Monday off, makes that a little bit difficult as well. We’re trying to get the input from Adley, see how he feels. Luckily, it’s a short stint, so hopefully we’ll have some more information in a day or two.”

Rutschman feels good about his progress.

“A lot better, running around, going through different drills and stuff, feeling good,” Rutschman said. “If Alby doesn’t know [about a rehab assignment], I’ll probably be the last one to hear.”

The 28-year-old catcher isn’t sure what happened.

“I don’t know the medical terminology. They’ve got a lot of fancy words,” he said. “Some stuff going on in the ankle. They classified it as a sprain or whatnot. Runnng? I don’t exactly know, but something happened.

“It’s a weird injury in that you don’t know how the body is going to react. Is this going to feel this way for two weeks? Is it going to be better in four days? The wait-and-see game, but it’s been feeling really good, so everyone’s happy with the response time.”

Holliday goes to Frederick

Second baseman Jackson Holliday will start a new rehab assignment at High-A Frederick on Saturday. He’ll also be with the Keys on Sunday.

Holliday, who had surgery to remove the hamate bone in his right wrist, had his rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk end last Sunday.

“He’ll play this weekend,” Albernaz said. “Mondays are off. We’ll re-evaluate and see where he’s at.”

O’Neill not quite ready

Outfielder Tyler O’Neill remains on the concussion injury list. He took batting practice before Friday night’s game against the Cleveland Guardians.

“He won’t be activated in the next day or two,” Albernaz said. “He still has some boxes to check. With a concussion, it’s very touch-and-go. Each day, we’re taking inventory on how he’s feeling. We’ll set a plan as he starts feeling back to himself.

“He’ll feeling a lot better. Anyone that has dealt with a concussion, it’s finicky. You only get one head in life, so you want to make sure it’s in the right spot. He’s trending in the right way.”

Note: Reliever Andrew Kittredge will resume his rehab assignment at Triple-A Norfolk on Friday night. Kittredge was on paternity leave.
