SARASOTA—The Orioles’ game against the New York Yankees was ended by rain in the top of the third inning on Sunday night.

The Orioles were leading a Yankees split-squad, 2-0, when rain began, and the grounds crew belatedly covered the field.

Tyler O’Neill, in his first game since returning from playing for Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic, had a two-run single.

Zach Eflin, in his second Grapefruit League start, retired the first six batters he faced, striking out four. After Spencer Jones led off the third with a single, the rain began.

Manager Craig Albernaz, president of baseball operations Mike Elias and assistant general manager Eve Rosenbaum huddled with home plate umpire Will Little and crew chief Mike Estabrook as well as Yankees personnel and Ed Smith Stadium officials before the game was canceled.
