Orioles claim left-hander José Suárez from Braves

Needing another left-handed relief option, the Orioles claimed veteran José Suárez off waivers from the Atlanta Braves on Thursday.

The 28-year-old is 22-29 with a 5.30 ERA and two saves in six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels and one with Atlanta.

Suárez was a starter through most of his major league career, but he’s started just four times in the last two seasons.

In 2025, Suárez spent most of the season on the injured list with a left shoulder ailment. He was 2-0 with a 1.86 ERA and a save in seven games with the Braves.

To make room for Suárez on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated infielder Marco Luciano for assignment. Luciano was claimed off waivers by the Orioles from Pittsburgh on January 7th.
