Suárez could return to Orioles on Monday

SAN FRANCISCO—It’s possible that right-hander Albert Suárez could return to the Orioles on Monday, interim manager Tony Mansolino said.

The 35-year-old right-hander threw a scoreless 2/3 innings for Triple-A Norfolk on Friday night. He’s been on the 60-day injured list with a rotator cuff injury.

“He’ll need a couple of days,” Mansolino said. “Monday kind of lines up.”

Suárez has pitched just once this season, on March 28th, before going on the injured list. Last season, he was an invaluable member of the staff,  going 9-7 with a 3.70 ERA in 32 games, 24 starts.

Infielder/outfielder Jorge Mateo, who’s on the 60-day injured list with a strained right hamstring, and right-hander Tyler Wells, who’s also on the 60-day IL, could return on Monday, as well. Moves on the 40-man roster must be made to accommodate them.

Notes: The Orioles released right-hander Matt Bowman, who passed through waivers, and sent right-hander Cody Poteet outright to Norfolk after he was activated from the 60-day injured list. … Single-A Delmarva catcher Caden Bodine’s season is over. He was placed on the 7-day injured list with a bruised left hand. Bodine was the 30th overall selection in June’s draft. He hit .326 with four RBIs in 11 games.
