BALTIMORE—The Orioles added another reliever when they claimed right-hander Shawn Dubin off waivers from Houston. Dubin, who was claimed on Tuesday afternoon, will not be active for Tuesday night’s game against Boston.
Dubin is 3-1 with a 4.95 ERA and two saves in 57 games with Houston over the last three seasons. He was designated for assignment after appearing in last Friday’s game against the Orioles, when he allowed two runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings.
In 2025, Dubin was 2-0 with a 5.61 ERA in 23 games.
To make room for Dubin on the 40-man roster, right-hander Scott Blewett, who is out with a right elbow injury, was transferred from the 15-day to 60-day injured list.
The Orioles are likely to make two roster moves for Wednesday’s game since Roansy Contreras is on the taxi squad and will either start or pitch in bulk relief.
“He’ll pitch a good amount tomorrow,” interim manager Tony Mansolino said. “A lot will kind of depend how we go through today.”
Contreras must be added to the 40-man roster.
Dubin will be added to the bullpen mix, Mansolino said.
“I like that one,” he said. “We’ll lay eyes on him and see what he does. There’s opportunity here. He can pitch leverage. He can pitch length out of the ‘pen. Just going to depend on how he does and how the other guys are doing. We’re excited about him.”
Right-hander Matt Bowman was designated for assignment to make room for Tuesday night’s starter Kyle Bradish on both the 26-man and 40-man roster. Bowman was 0-1 with a 6.20 ERA in 20 games with the Orioles this season.
Notes: The Orioles promoted right-handed pitcher Levi Wells from Double-A Chesapeake to Triple-A Norfolk. … Left-hander Luis De Léon was promoted to Chesapeake from High-A Aberdeen. … Right-hander Chase Allsup moves from Single-A Delmarva to Aberdeen.
