Orioles’ O’Hearn, Holliday are All-Star finalists

The Orioles have two finalists in All-Star balloting, designated hitter Ryan O’Hearn and second baseman Jackson Holliday.

In the initial balloting, O’Hearn had a lead of nearly 1 million over New York’s Ben Rice while Holliday trailed Detroit’s Gleyber Torres by about 674,000 votes.

O’Hearn is hitting .301 with 11 home runs and 30 RBIs and an .869 OPS. Holliday is hitting .259 with nine home runs and 32 RBIs and a .722 OPS.

Catcher Adley Rutschman and first baseman Ryan Mountcastle, who are both on the injured list, finished seventh, shortstop Gunnar Henderson finished eighth, third baseman Ramón Urias was ninth. No Oriole outfielder finished in the top 20.

Balloting for the starters will begin at noon on Monday and conclude at noon on Wednesday. The starters will be announced next Wednesday at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

Povich’s rehab start: Left-hander Cade Povich, who’s on the 15-day injured list with an inflamed left hip, allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Norfolk in its 6-0 loss to Gwinnett.

Povich struck out three and walked one, throwing 75 pitches.

The Tides were held to two hits. Jorge Mateo, who was the designated hitter, had one. Mateo is on a rehab assignment for a left elbow injury.

Outfielder Jud Fabian is on the 7-day injured list with a strained left wrist.
