Orioles recall Trevor Rogers to start against Rays

The Orioles recalled left-handed pitcher Trevor Rogers to start Wednesday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Rogers, who threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits as the 27th man in the second game of a day/night doubleheader on May 24th, had been at Triple-A Norfolk.

Rogers was acquired at the trade deadline last July from Miami in exchange for infielder Connor Norby and outfielder Kyle Stowers. He had a 7.11 ERA in four starts before he was sent to Norfolk.

The Orioles have a hole in their starting rotation with Cade Povich on the 15-day injured list with left hip inflammation, so it appears Rogers will have more than one start in the rotation.

To make room for Rogers, the Orioles optioned left-hander Grant Wolfram, who didn’t appear in Tuesday night’s game to Norfolk. Wolfram had been recalled on Tuesday.
