SARASOTA—Orioles reliever Andrew Kittredge had left knee debridement surgery in Baltimore on Friday. The surgery, which removes cartilage and tissue to reduce pain and improve movement, was performed by Dr. Leigh Ann Curl. The Orioles say the surgery was successful.

Kittredge pitched one scoreless inning against Pittsburgh in Bradenton on February 26th, allowing two hits and walking one. The 34-year-old right-hander was supposed to pitch in the March 1st game but felt discomfort and didn’t pitch.

The Orioles signed Kittredge to a one-year, $10 million contract on January 13th with a $9 million option for 2026.

In 2024, Kittredge was 5-5 with a 2.80 ERA and one save in 74 appearances for the St. Louis Cardinals. The Orioles faced him often in his seven previous seasons with Tampa Bay.

“We know how good he is, and the year he had last year in St. Louis, and we saw him pitch against us a couple of years prior to that when he was healthy how good he is,” manager Brandon Hyde said. “It’s a blow, and hopefully we can have other guys step up and get him back and healthy, and he can help us whenever he gets back.”

Notes: The Orioles optioned 26-year-old right-handed pitcher Brandon Young to minor league camp after Friday night’s game. He allowed four runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings with five strikeouts and three walks in three games. Young’s ERA was 5.68. … Outfielder Tyler O’Neill said his rib-cage feels fine, and he expects to play on Sunday. He was scratched from the lineup on Thursday night.
