Orioles’ Alonso is American League Player of the Week

For the first time in nearly two years, the Orioles have an American League Player of the Week. Pete Alonso hit .546 (12-for-22) with two home runs and five RBIs and a 1.494 OPS.

Alonso is the first Oriole to win Player of the Week since shortstop Gunnar Henderson on September 9th, 2024. It’s his sixth Player of the Week award. He won five National League Player of the Week awards with the New York Mets in 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 and is the 12th  player to win a Player of the Week award in five straight seasons.

He had multiple hits in four consecutive games, the first Oriole to do so this season. The 31-year-old first baseman helped the Orioles move into the third wild-card spot in the American League after three consecutive wins over the Tampa Bay Rays, who play against the Orioles again on Monday night.

Alonso has played in 541 consecutive games, and is hitting .266 with an ,851 OPS, 27 home runs and 80 RBIs.

Notes: The Orioles will open a three-game series with the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. Shane Baz (4-12, 4.00) will start against Carlos Rodón (4-2, 3.30). It will be Rodón’s first start since June 28th. He’s been on the injured list with right elbow inflammation. Originally, the Yankees were going to start Will Warren. Chris Bassitt and Kyle Bradish will start the other two games of the series. … Double-A Chesapeake left-hander Joseph Dzierwa has been named the Eastern League’s Pitcher of the Week.
