MINNEAPOLIS—Catcher Yohel Pozo, who left Tuesday night’s game after he injured his left index finger is ready to play, Orioles manager Craig Albernaz said.
“In the moment, I’m not going to lief, I thought it was broken,” Albernaz said. “Looking at it, his reaction, when he got the X-ray, when it came back negative, it was a like a relief for him.”
Later, Pozo, whose index finger was bandaged on Wednesday morning told Albernaz he was fine. Carlos Narváez is starting.
“Like anyone that’s been behind the plate, you just have to now adapt and be able to manipulate the glove and put some pad in there to lessen the blow,” Albernaz said. “Pozo is ready to go.”
Bassitt nearing return
The Orioles haven’t named their starters for the four-game series at Tampa Bay that begins on Friday, but it’s likely that Chris Bassitt will be one of them.
Bassitt, who’s still on the 60-day injured list following back surgery, is ready to return.
“We’ll have a conversation to kind of see where that lines up,” Albernaz said. “How he’s feeling, where it fits and everything else. Everything is trending in the right direction.”
Notes: Sunday’s game at Tampa Bay, which will begin at 12:15 p.m., will be shown exclusively on Peacock. …Pitching coach Drew French changed his number from 75 to 58 when Narváez arrived. He says he had no particular attachment to either number, but wore 58 when he was Atlanta’s bullpen coach.
