Question: This team is such an embarrassment and full of draft-pick busts. Do you see anything in Jackson Holliday that makes you believe he won’t be next on the list? From: Eric from Denver
Answer: Eric, I got a similar question from John Kazlo. Please remember that Jackson Holliday is still one of the younger major leaguers. He’s only 22 and was handicapped by not having a spring training and having multiple rehab assignments waiting for his injury to heal.
He had a four-hit game on Wednesday night, and while he hasn’t hit up to expectations, I still think he’ll be a quality major leaguer. I think he’ll have a strong second half.
Question: If he decides to sell, will Mike Elias try to get some MLB talent who could help this year and in the future instead of prospects? I’m hearing the Padres may put Mason Miller on the market. If he’s available, the Orioles should do whatever it takes to get him, even if they’re basically sellers this year. He still has three years until free agency. From: Henry Alexander
Answer: Henry, as you saw in the review of last year’s trades earlier this week, Elias did amass a boatload of prospects. So far, only Anthony Nunez has reached the big leagues, and one of them, Wellington Aracena, was used to get Blaze Alexander.
Teams will probably be reluctant to part with major league-ready players in exchange for players with expiring contracts, which is what the Orioles have to offer.
I think Mason Miller is the best reliever I’ve ever seen, and while I’d love to see him with the Orioles, I can’t imagine they have a package of prospects that would attract the San Diego Padres.
Most weekdays, I’ll be answering at least one Orioles question. If you’d like to submit a question, send it to: [email protected]. Questions may be edited for clarity, length and style.
