BALTIMORE—Jackson Holliday is not in the starting lineup for Triple-A Norfolk on Friday night. Holliday, who’s rehabbing after February surgery to remove the hamate bone in his right wrist, is hitting .171 with three RBIs in nine games.
On Tuesday, the 22-year-old second baseman told the Virginian-Pilot that he was cautiously optimistic about this return.
“I’m still working through some things,” he said. “I’d be lying if I said it felt 100 percent, but it’s kind of just part of it. I’m trying to strengthen it, kind of just trying to get used to what I’m probably going to have to deal with for a little bit. But for the most part, not too bad.”
Holliday’s rehab runs through next Wednesday.
“He’s playing the next two [games],” manager Craig Albernaz said. He said he’s hot surprised that Holliday’s recovery hasn’t been linear.
“Each player is different, how the surgery went, how they’re recovering, how they’re dealing with whatever it is.”
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Chase DeLauter had a similar surgery last year when Albernaz was a coach there.
“He had some discomfort for an extended period of time,” Albernaz said. “I’m not saying Jackson is in that same scope, but it is common to have some sort of feeling or soreness or whatever it is.”
Asked if Holliday needed to check any boxes before his return, Albernaz said: “Just making sure that Jackson is feeling as healthy as he can. That’s it for me. As long as his wrist is feeling great, his body is feeling great each day, that box is checked.”
Enns feeling better
Left-hander Dietrich Enns, who’s on the 15-day injured list with a left foot infection, is feeling better. Enns, who pitched on April 3rd in Pittsburgh, woke up the next morning with swelling near his left big toe.
He received treatment, ran and played catch. Thing went poorly on Sunday.
“My foot kind of blew up even more,” he said. “I couldn’t put any weight on it. It was super red, swollen, so that’s when I went to the ER in Pittsburgh.”
He had an IV and took antibiotics.
“They said it was just an infection,” he said. “They don’t know what caused it. It might have been from a cut on my foot or a bug bite. We’ve had so many people check my feet out. They haven’t found anything out of the ordinary. There’s nothing I can really pinpoint in the last week or two that’s been anything different.
“It’s one of those unfortunate things that have happened. I’m trying to recover and get past it as best as I can.”
Ens is eligible to return on April 19th.
“I’m already starting to feel better,” Enns said. “I’m already back to almost full range with the foot and toe. The antibiotics are definitely working … and I’ll be back as soon as possible.”
O’s debut new City Connect uniforms
The Orioles are debuting their new BMORE City Connect uniforms on Friday night, and the clubhouse reaction is positive.
“I think they rock,” first baseman Pete Alonso said. “They’re fantastic. I think they’re really exciting, a huge ode to Camden [Yards]. I think they did a great job just putting together a great uniform.”
Catcher Adley Rutschman gives them high marks, too.
“Just a phenomenal color way, a really good palette,” he said. “The accents to the stadium green, the patch on the sleeve. I think it’s constructed very creatively.”
Albernaz is also a fan.
“I love them. I think they did a great job,” he said. “I love the detail. The green’s a different touch, too, and the cream uniforms are really cool, too.”
