CHICAGO—Orioles right-hander Zach Eflin had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on Wednesday, the team announced. The surgery, which the Orioles say was successful, was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, Texas.
Eflin saw Meister on Tuesday for a second opinion, and the surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament was performed a day later on his 32nd birthday.
Eflin left the Orioles-Rangers game on March 31st with what the club said was “right elbow discomfort” after throwing 3 2/3 innings. It was his first start of the season.
He had back surgery last August and re-signed with the Orioles in December. The one-year contract for $10 million includes a mutual option for $25 million in 2027 or a $2 million buyout.
Eflin came to the Orioles in July 2025 and was on the injured list three times last year. He’s 11-7 with a 4.42 ERA in 24 starts with the Orioles.
