Orioles claim reliever Roansy Contreras off waivers for 2nd time, designate Cameron for assignment

For the second time in less than a month, the Orioles have claimed right-handed pitcher Roansy Contreras off waivers. This time, it was from the New York Yankees.

On January 10th, the Orioles claimed the 25-year-old from Cincinnati, and on January 23rd, the Yankees claimed him from the Orioles. During the offseason, Contreras also has been on the roster of the Los Angeles Angels and Texas Rangers

Last season, Contreras was 2-4 with a 4.35 ERA and two saves in 49 games with the Angels and Pittsburgh Pirates. Contreras has a 4.72 ERA in 90 games, 53 of them with Pittsburgh from 2021-2024.

To make room for Contreras on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated outfielder Daz Cameron for assignment. Cameron was purchased from the Athletics on October 31st.

Infielder Luis Vázquez, who was designated for assignment when the Orioles signed outfielder Ramón Laureano on Tuesday, cleared outright waivers and was assigned to Triple-A Norfolk. He’s been invited to spring training.
