Jul 12, 2024; Baltimore, Maryland, USA; Baltimore Oriolesoutfielder Heston Kjerstad (13) after stands on the field after being hit by a pitch in the head during the ninth inning against the New York Yankees at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Mandatory
DETROIT-Heston Kjerstad will be joining the Orioles on Sunday for their game against the Detroit Tigers, according to multiple industry sources. The outfielder/designated hitter, who’s been on the 10-day injured list because of a concussion suffered on July 12th, was removed from Double-A Bowie’s game on Saturday night with Erie after three at-bats.
Right-handed reliever Jacob Webb also is rejoining the Orioles. Webb, who was rehabbing an inflamed right elbow, threw four rehab assignments for Triple-A Norfolk.
Kjerstad, who was hit on the batting helmet by a pitch from New York’s Clay Holmes on July 12th, returned a week later and was 2-for-18 (.111) before being optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. He was placed on the injured list before he reported.
He hit .333 (6-for-18) in six games for Bowie and High-A Aberdeen in a rehab assignment.
Kjerstad hit .261 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 28 games with the Orioles earlier this season.
To make room for Kjerstad and Webb on the 28-man roster, the Orioles designated utilityman Nick Maton and left-hander Cole Irvin for assignment.
