Mountcastle joins Rutschman, Henderson as Orioles dominate All-Star voting

BALTIMORE—Three Orioles — catcher Adley Rutschman, shortstop Gunnar Henderson and first baseman Ryan Mountcastle — are leading at their positions in the latest round of balloting for the American League All-Star Game.

Rutschman, with 1,638,425 votes, leads Kansas City’s Salvador Perez by more than 600,000 votes. Henderson, with 1,551,124 votes, leads the Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr. by about 563,000 votes. Mountcastle, who was second in last week’s balloting, leads Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. by about 61,000 votes.

Other Orioles are close to the leaders. Jordan Westburg ,with 846,352 votes, trails Cleveland’s José Ramirez by about 580,000 votes.

Jorge Mateo is third among second basemen with 646,527 votes, but he’s more than 316,00 votes behind Texas’ Marcus Semien for second place.

Among outfielders, Anthony Santander is fifth with 808,100 votes, and Colton Cowser is sixth with 649,710 votes. Cedric Mullins, with 512,352 votes, is eighth, and Ryan O’Hearn is fourth in the designated hitter voting with 687,374 votes.

Phase 1 of the balloting ends on Thursday at noon. The top two at each position and the six top outfielders advance to Phase 2. That balloting will begin at noon on Sunday and run through noon on Wednesday July 3rd.

The winners will be announce on July 3rd at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

The All-Star game will be held at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on July 16th.
