BALTIMORE—After winning three straight games in Boston, the Orioles returned home for Jackson Holliday’s Baltimore debut. It wasn’t a pleasant homecoming.
Holliday struck out three times to run his hitless streak to 11-at bats, and Tyler Wells produced the Orioles’ shortest start of the season, working only four innings in an 11-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers before 32,205 at Camden Yards on Friday night.
Wells (0-2) allowed four runs in four innings, and Jonathan Heasley gave up six runs in two innings.
Gary Sánchez hit a two-run home run in the second. Willy Adames hit a three-run homer in the fifth, and William Contreras had a two-run shot in the sixth.
Joey Ortiz, who was traded to the Brewers (9-3) along with DL Hall in the Corbin Burnes trade, had his first career three-hit game with a triple and two singles. Ortiz drove in two runs.
Freddy Peralta (2-0) baffled the Orioles (8-4), allowing one run on five hits in six innings, striking out 11 without walking a batter.
Colton Cowser, who homered twice in Boston on Thursday night, homered in the fourth, his third of the season, for the Orioles’ only run.
Holliday was greeted warmly by the fans and was encouraged by a standing ovation during his final strikeout in the seventh inning with the Orioles trailing by nine runs. The 20-year-old has struck out seven times in 11 at-bats.
In the sixth, Adames, who doubled, homered and singled, and Orioles catcher James McCann began arguing during Adames’ at-bat. Both dugouts and bullpens emptied, but no punches were thrown. Adames’ resumed his at-bat and singled.
