BOSTON—In his third rehab assignment for Triple-A Norfolk, Oriole starter John Means threw three innings, against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out three and walking one. He threw 61 pitches. His earned-run average for the three starts is 12.86.
Means gave up a home run in the second inning.
The left-hander is on the 15-day injured list with a left forearm strain. After he was not placed on the Division Series roster in October because his left elbow was sore, the Orioles decided he should begin throwing later than the other starters when spring training began.
The Tides lost to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 4-3. Bruce Zimmermann allowed two unearned runs in five innings. Catcher Michael Pérez hit a three-run home run.
Because of Thursday’s forecast, Oriole right-handed starter Kyle Bradish, who was supposed to make his first rehab start for High-A Aberdeen, was scheduled for live batting practice instead.
Bradish is also on the 15-day injured list because of a sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
The Orioles claimed infielder Liván Soto off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels for the second time in just over two months. Soto was with the Orioles from February 8th-18th when the Angels claimed him off waivers.
Soto was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles have 39 players on their 40-man roster.
