BOSTON–The Orioles are calling up the top prospect in baseball, 20-year-old infielder Jackson Holliday.

Holliday played Tuesday in the Tides’ opening game of a series against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and went 1-for-4 with a walk in a 5-2 loss. He batted .333 with two home runs and nine RBIs in 10 games with the Tides this season. His OPS was 1.077.

ESPN was first to report Holliday’s callup, and it was confirmed by an industry source.

On March 22nd, the Orioles reassigned Holliday, who will be placed on the 40-man roster, to the minor leagues after he had an excellent spring training and appeared as if he were in position to make the Opening Day roster.

Executive vice president/general manager Mike Elias, who had said Holliday would have every chance to make the team at the start of the season, said Holliday needed time to adjust to second base and hit against quality left-handed hitting when he was sent down.

Holliday is expected to be the Orioles’ second baseman.
