The Orioles named their minor league staff on Wednesday.
Buck Britton, who guided the Norfolk Tides to the Triple-A championship, returns to Norfolk for his third year as manager. Britton was awarded the organization’s player development award.
Roberto Mercado, who managed High-A Aberdeen for the last two seasons, replaces Kyle Moore at Double-A Bowie, and Felipe Alou Jr., who was the manager at Single-A Delmarva, moves up to replace Mercado at Aberdeen.
Collin Woody, who was the fundamentals coach in the Florida Complex League for the past two seasons, replaces Alou with the Shorebirds.
Justin Ramsey, who’s in his sixth season in the organization, returns for his third season as Norfolk’s pitching coach. The Tides’ hitting coach will be Mike Montville.
Longtime Orioles minor league coach Ramón Sambo and Joshua Rodrigues return as fundamentals and development coaches.
Bowie’s pitching coach will be Austin Meine, who was Aberdeen’s pitching coach last year. The Baysox’s hitting coach will be John Bunselmeyer, who moves up from Delmarva. Fundamentals coach Chase Serby and development coach Billy Facteau were on the IronBirds’ staff last year.
Aberdeen’s pitching coach will be Jordie Henry, who was with the Florida Complex League Orioles, and Zach Cole will be the hitting coach for the third year. Charles Bolden, a former coach at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, will be the fundamentals coach, and Ryan Goll will be the development coach.
Delmarva’s coaches are pitching coach Andy Sadoski and hitting coach Christian Poulsen, both from the FCL. Daniel Fajardo remains the fundamentals coach, and Calvin Christiansen will be a developmental coach.
Christian Frias manages the FCL Orioles for a third season, and Adam Bleday and Brandon Bailey are the pitching coaches. Teegan Leader and Julio González are hitting coaches, and Tim DeJohn, who’s the minor league infield coordinator, is the FCL Orioles fundamentals coach as well. Richard Cosgrove and Casey Day will be development coaches.
Chris Madera and Elbis Morel return as managers in the Dominican Summer League.
Organizational coaches are Chris Holt, the director of pitching. Brink Ambler will be lower-level hitting coach and Sherman Johnson is upper-level hitting coach.
Forrest Herrmann, last year’s pitching coach at Bowie, is the lower-level pitching coordinator, and he’ll be assisted by Adam Schuck.
Notes: On Tuesday Austin Hays and Jacob Webb both won their arbitration cases. Hays will be paid $6.3 million and Webb $1 million. Ryan O’Hearn’s case is still to be decided. … Craig Kimbrel will wear No. 46 this season, which hasn’t been issued since shortly after Mike Flanagan’s death in August 2011. Corbin Burnes will wear No. 39, and Kyle Bradish will wear No. 38.
