The Orioles were finally able to announce the signing of right-handed pitcher Jordan Lyles to a one-year contract for a reported $7 million with an option for 2023. The Orioles reached an agreement with Lyles just before the December 2nd lockout by Major League Baseball, but the deal couldn’t be completed until the 31-year-old passed a physical.
Lyles, who should slot in behind left-hander John Means in the starting rotation, has a 54-79 record with a 5.21 ERA in 11 seasons with Houston, Colorado, San Diego, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh and Texas.
In 2021, Lyles was 10-13 with a 5.15 ERA in 32 games, 30 starts with the Rangers. Lyles set a career high with 180 innings pitched and led the major leagues with 38 home runs allowed, a career high.
With Lyles’ addition, the Orioles have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
