Orioles might get Basallo back during homestand; Alexander, Bautista making progress; O’s-Yankees lineups

BALTIMORE—Catcher Samuel Basallo, who’s on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation, will play his second rehab game for Double-A Chesapeake on Tuesday night.

Basallo was 1-for-4 with three RBIs for Triple-A Norfolk in his first rehab game on Sunday. Manager Craig Albernaz thinks there’s a good chance Basallo will return during this homestand.

“Everything is trending great for Sammy,” Albernaz said. “The way he handled his rehab process was awesome. He did everything as perfect as you can. He attacked it. Sammy’s in a great spot right now.”

Utility player Blaze Alexander, who has a fractured left hand, should begin a rehab assignment within a week.

“It would be a huge boost,” Albernaz said. “You want to make sure the bones heal the right way. He’s put a ton of great work in.”

Closer Félix Bautista, who had rotator cuff and labrum surgery in August 2025, also should begin a rehab assignment within a week.

“I haven’t even thought about him joining us,” Albernaz said. “It will be a great surprise for him to join us, but having those two big injuries, the arm injuries, it’s really tough to come back from. Félix has done everything that he can and the live [batting practices] have been looking great.

“We want to make sure that they’re feeling great, they’re in the right spot before they make the next step. He hasn’t seen game in action in 54, 55 weeks. It’s a big jump. We want to make sure that he’s ready for that jump.”

Reliever Ryan Helsley, who’s on the 60-day injured list with right elbow discomfort, hopes to throw his first bullpen session within a week.
