The Orioles traded shortstop Freddy Galvis, who is on the 10-day injured list, to the Philadelphia Phillies for minor league pitcher Tyler Burch just before the 4 p.m. trade deadline Friday, general manager Mike Elias said.
Galvis, who spent the first six seasons of his major league career with the Phillies, hit .249 with nine home runs and 26 RBIs in 72 games with the Orioles before injuring his right quadriceps on June 26th.
Galvis, who was rehabilitating his quad in Sarasota, Florida, has a clause in his contract giving him $250,000 in the event that he was dealt.
Elias said said Burch, a 23-year-old right-handed pitcher, had a “big stuff jump” since the pandemic.
Earlier in the day, the Orioles traded right-handed reliever Shawn Armstrong, who was at Triple-A Norfolk, to the Tampa Bay Rays for cash considerations. They also acquired left-handed reliever Ryan Hartman from Houston on waivers.

For me I am okay with the Orioles not trading Fry, Scott, Mancini, Means, Sulser and Tate. Orioles are not a thrift store. The days of DD is over. You can't offer up garbage like you did in the past. If your not going to get the return you deserve, then don't make the trade. O's had the Leverage. This will bode well for the O's in the off-season and the next trade deadline, that the Orioles mean business, that they want a fair return. If anybody doesn't think Fry and Scott wouldn't warrant a high return go read the article, a day or two ago, on Fry & Scott in MLB Rumors/Yardbarker which lays out why they would. As for Mancini I hope the reason why they didn't trade him was because they didn't receive a offer they could take. As for all of them there was no rush to trade them. For Galvis the Orioles got Tyler Burch 23 yr old RHP who checks in at #36 on fangraphs prospect list for Philadelphia. Most likely the best you where going to get for Galvis.
I'm with you 100% on not trading all the players that you mentioned JP. I'll even let the cheap shot at Duquette slide! But you're right, why trade what few serviceable players for nothing? I'm especially thankful for Santander staying in place.

That is what makes me disgusted with Duquette that for Manny you couldn't gotten a better deal from the Dodgers or around baseball. If Kremer, Diaz or Bannon don't pan out, the O's got nothing for the best third basemen in baseball. Even Britton should have been a better return. Look at all those quality prospects the Cubs got today in their rentals. They got value, We got garbage.

Galvis was a free agent after 2 months, so you get what you can for him. Richie Martin should be back soon, so this opens up a roster spot to get him on the field. Galvis will be available again in 2 months, so the Orioles can always bring him back. Don’t think there will be a bidding war for his services
Cal you get it. As for OhMy! the Orioles traded Manny for Diaz, Kremer, Bannon, Pop and Valera, five prospects. It's not about quantity, it's about quality! Don't tell me that the Manny trade was like the Bedard trade, O's got five in that one too, but they got quality. In the final analysis, trades are simply a gamble with yet to be determined long term results. The Bedard trade isnt really a fair comparison because that was a fleece job often used as a reference point for “good trade”. How often do you get 5 QUALITY players in a trade?
Of course we want quality over quantity. Nobody would disagree with that sentiment. Sometimes there’s quality in the quantity.

While our discussion is about trades, I guess mine is about Organization or Organizational Culture. From 1966 to 83 the Orioles had that. Tampa Bay & Houston got it. If you want to tell me that Duquette and the owner PA inspired that type of culture/baseball IQ I will never change your mind. That is why I am willing to give Elias a chance he spoke of that past Orioles Culture and desire to get back to it and I hope he succeeds and if does Orioles fans it's going to be FUN.
