Orioles option Chance Sisco to Norfolk, add catcher Austin Wynns; Richie Martin goes on 60-day injured list

FREE ARTICLE

BALTIMORE–Dissatisfied with their catching, the Orioles purchased the contract of Austin Wynns from Triple-A Norfolk and optioned Chance Sisco to the Tides. In order to make room for Wynns on the 40-man roster, the Orioles placed infielder Richie Martin on the 60-day injured list because of a fractured left wrist.

Sisco was hitting .154 in 23 games this season. He has three RBIs, and his OPS is .431. The 26-year-old, who was the Orioles’ second-round draft pick in 2013, has a lifetime batting average of .199 in five seasons with Baltimore.

Wynns, who is 30, was the Orioles’ 10th-round pick in 2013 and hit .239 with five home runs and 16 RBIs in 70 games with the Orioles in 2018 and 2019. He was hitting .333 with three homers and nine RBIs in 15 games at Norfolk.

Martin fractured his wrist playing center field for the Tides on May 18th and is expected to miss eight and 12 weeks.

  • Ok we have brought up Wynns, hopefully he is the starting catcher. We have seen Cisco and Severino and neither is tearing it up offensively, but their defense was sub-par.
Was shocked really thought they would be bold and bring that other fella up

  • Though having Stevie and Wynns be your major call-ups for this "going full circle" minor league talent level Wynns coming up is actually a breath of fresh air. Chance Sisco--oh what could've been. Still can't get over Martin,Jones,Diaz stepping in these "potholes" when their call was coming. Oh well it's the process I guess.

  • It should tell you something when they are trying Ritchie Martin in the outfield. Looks like he’s not in the infield plans . Maybe they are grooming him as an utility guy cause Wilkerson’s average headed south playing full time

    • Wilkerson was called up 5/18 and went 2-4. Martin was injured 5/18. Wilkerson was batting 0.368 on 5/25 but has gone 0-14 since then.

  • Let's just say that Martin was the first, and remains the iconic, acquisition of the new management team.

  • So is the front office process toward a better bottom line for team ownership is to just be some Punch and Judy squad each and every year so to attract the Red Sox and Yankee fans to Camden yards and watch their team spank our tails. It’s so sad

  • Sisco kid hitting .154 in 23 out of 53 games this year, and a lifetime batting average of .199 in five seasons with Baltimore just wasn't cutting it. Maybe, he takes this in a positive way and works his azz off to get back and not become another dud draft pick from the Duquette era. I would love to see that for his progression back to the major leagues to become Adley Rutschman backup in the future.

  • Ok.....so are we happy Cisco kid is gone, or are we pissed off because “they” didn’t give him enough big league AB and let him struggle offensively and defensively, etc?

  • Sisco fourth worst framer in MLB , number one worst framer guess who yes our own Severino. Sisco should never catch another game teach him second base and get a sports psychologist to try to straighten his head out

    • Agree that yanking the glove toward the strike zone is an insult to good catching skills and doesn’t work well with umpires, either. It’s bush league.
However, it made me think.....how are “framing skills” evaluated? I mean someone is watching and rating this skill, but what exactly is the metric? Seems like a soft skill and highly nuanced.

      Serious question.
