The argument can be made that no one knows the Double-A Bowie roster better than Adam Pohl, the “Voice of the Baysox.”
Pohl goes on the road with the team, sees every game and has a tremendous institutional knowledge of the Orioles’ organization due to his years broadcasting Bowie and High-A Frederick games.
This winter, Pohl has been doing spotlight podcasts for us on each of the Orioles’ affiliates. When it became Bowie’s turn, we figured we’d really tap into that knowledge. So, instead of just one podcast for the Baysox, Pohl did two – or, really, one long one in two segments.
We also turned the tables on Pohl a little.
Instead of Pohl interviewing BaltimoreBaseball.com’s minor league writer, Dean Jones Jr., we had Jones interview Pohl.
In our Thanksgiving episode (segment one), Pohl discusses 2016 Bowie pitching coach Alan Mills – who will be the Orioles’ bullpen coach in 2017 – as well as some of the organization’s more recognizable prospects such as Trey Mancini and Chance Sisco.
In today’s episode, Pohl provides insight on some Baysox that maybe aren’t as well-known or highly-regarded, but still have a chance to make noise in the organization.
He discusses the future of outfielder Mike Yastrzemski, the upside of pitcher Joe Gunkel, the resurgence of third baseman Drew Dosch (pictured above) and the perseverance of middle infielder Garabez Rosa.
He also gives his prediction of which 2016 Baysox player may be taken in the Rule 5 draft next month by another organization.
