NEW YORK—Pete Alonso, who holds the New York Mets’ franchise record for home runs, hit his 300th home run in the ninth inning of the Orioles’ game with the Mets on Tuesday night.
Alonso, who had been hitless in his first three at-bats, was loudly cheered by the 28,097 fans at Citi Field, where he played his first seven seasons.
He hit a 2-0 pitch off Mets closer Kodai Senga, who was attempting to close out the game. The home run, his 36th of the season, tied the game at 3-3.
Earlier in the game, Orioles starter Shane Baz absorbed a 105 mph comebacker off Bo Bichette’s bat and left the game in the fifth inning.
