Orioles place Holliday on 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation; Bradish diagnosed with sports hernia; O’s-Mets lineups

NEW YORK—Orioles second baseman Jackson Holliday was placed on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation before Wednesday night’s game against the New York Mets. The move is retroactive to Tuesday.

After the news came that Holliday was not in the lineup for the second straight day, manager Craig Albernaz said that the 22-year-old is “banged up.”

Holliday, who’s hitting .229 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs and a .640 OPS, didn’t play until May 18^th because of surgery to remove the hamate bone from his right wrist.

“Jackie’s been feeling it the past couple of days,” Albernaz said, declining to get more specific. “Medical is doing their due diligence.”

The Orioles purchased the contract of infielder José Barrero from Triple-A Norfolk. Barrero, who has a .182 average in 161 games in five seasons with St. Louis and Cincinnati, hit .202 with 23 home runs and 57 RBIs for the Tides.

Holliday is eligible to be activated for the final series of the regular season at Yankee Stadium on September 25^th.

Bradish has sports hernia

Right-hander Kyle Bradish, who was placed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday with lower abdominal discomfort, returned to Baltimore for imaging and was diagnosed with a sports hernia, Albernaz said.

“Going through all the options. He’s going through that process right now,” he said.

Baz gets good news

Albernaz said that right-hander Shane Baz, who was removed from Tuesday night’s game in the fifth inning after getting hit on the right elbow by a 105-mph line drive by Bo Bichette.

After Baz threw a warmup pitch that sailed to the backstop, Baz left. He said after the game that he was fine.

“It’s a little swollen around his elbow,” Albernaz said. “When he first came in, I went to him, and he was moving his right arm … It’s a good thing because he has range of motion.”

Generally, Baz refrains from throwing the day after he pitches.

The Orioles haven’t decided on their starters for the Milwaukee series that begins on Friday night, but Baz should be ready to pitch when his turn comes up.”

Top prospects play in Sarasota Thursday

The Orioles are holding an offseason instructional camp in Sarasota. On Thursday at noon, some of the organization’s top prospects will face off against those of the Atlanta Braves. There is no admission charge for the game at Ed Smith Stadium.

Among those on the roster are the Orioles’ top prospect, outfielder Eric Booth Jr., the seventh overall pick in July’s draft, outfielder Ty Head, the second-round pick and No. 15 prospect.

Others who are on the camp roster are outfielder Enddy Azocar, the No. 9 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline; utility player Jaiden Lo Re, the No. 19 prospect; and outfielders Jhomnardo Reyes (No. 24) and Kevin Roberts Jr. (No. 29).

Roberts was the fourth-round selection in July’s draft. Right-handed pitcher Dominic Voegele, the third-round pick, is also on the roster, which includes a number of other picks in July’s draft.

Azocar and his High-A Frederick teammate, right-handed reliever Braeden Sloan, were named to the South Atlantic League All-Star team. Keys manager Collin Woody was named the league’s manager of the year for Frederick’s 83-46 record, which led all High-A teams.
