BALTIMORE—Relief pitcher Dietrich Enns, who was surprisingly designated for assignment on Tuesday, is remaining in the Orioles’ organization.

The 35-year-old left-hander, who was 3-0 with a 3.94 ERA in 13 games, cleared outright waivers and accepted an assignment to Triple-A Norfolk. If a team had claimed Enns, they would have had to pay the remainder of his $2.625 million salary.

Unless replacing an injured pitcher on the active roster, Enns will have to remain with Norfolk for 15 days.

Helsley happy with progress

Closer Ryan Helsley feels good about his first bullpen session on Saturday. The 31-year-old right-hander, who’s on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation, said he’ll pitch “a couple of more bullpens, a little higher intensity, and then, when we get back from this road trip, we’ll see where we’re at and talk about games.”

Helsley has missed all of May and hopes to pitch sometime next month.

“Right now just trying to take it day-by-day and trying to hit every checklist on the paper and go from there,” Helsley said.

Note: After an offday on Monday, the Orioles will open a three-game series in Boston against the Red Sox. Shane Baz, Chris Bassitt and Trevor Rogers are scheduled to start.
