Spring Training

Orioles option rookie relievers Cameron Foster, Anthony Nunez to minor league camp, reassign 4 others

SARASOTA—The Orioles cut six players after Sunday’s game, including Cameron Foster and Anthony Nunez, two right-handed relievers who were promoted to the 40-man roster last November.

Foster and Nunez, who came to the Orioles last July in separate trades with the New York Mets, had both pitched well in spring training. Both Foster and Nunez threw scoreless innings in the Orioles’ 1-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday.

Foster pitched five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks with five strikeouts, Nunez also threw five shutout innings, allowing three hits with five strikeouts.

Catcher Silas Ardoin, outfielder Jud Fabian and pitchers Jean Carlos Henriquez and Cameron Weston were assigned to minor league camp.

Ardoin was 2-for-7 (.286) in seven games. Fabian was hitless in 11 at-bats. Henriquez allowed two runs on four hits in two innings, walking one. Weston allowed two hits in five scoreless innings with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Earlier on Sunday, outfielder Reed Trimble was optioned to minor league camp.

The Orioles have 60 players on the spring training roster, including 23 non-roster invitees. Two pitchers, Félix Bautista and Colin Selby, are on the 60-day injured list. Infielders Jackson Holliday and Jordan Westburg and right-hander Andrew Kittredge are expected to be placed on the injured list before the March 26th opener.
