The Orioles made Pete Alonso’s signing official on Thursday. Alonso, the five-time All-Star who signed a five-year, $155 million deal, will be introduced on Friday afternoon.
Alonso’s addition has been greeted with glee by Oriole fans, who had been skeptical of the team’s willingness to offer large deals.
To make room for Alonso on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated catcher Maverick Handley for assignment. Handley was 3-for-41 (.073) with three RBIs and failed to throw out any of the 13 runners who attempted to steal against him.
