Orioles’ Alonso hits 300th home run at Citi Field, where he starred for Mets

NEW YORK—Pete Alonso, who holds the New York Mets’ franchise record for home runs, hit his 300^th home run in the ninth inning of the Orioles’ game with the Mets on Tuesday night.

Alonso, who had been hitless in his first three at-bats, was loudly cheered by the 28,097 fans at Citi Field, where he played his first seven seasons.

He hit a 2-0 pitch off Mets closer Kodai Senga, who was attempting to close out the game. The home run, his 36^th of the season, tied the game at 3-3.

Earlier in the game, Orioles starter Shane Baz absorbed a 105 mph comebacker off Bo Bichette’s bat and left the game in the fifth inning.
