Matt Blood
The Orioles have parted ways with one of president of baseball operations Mike Elias’ first hires, Matt Blood, who most recently served as vice president, player and staff development.
The news was first reported by The Baltimore Banner and confirmed by an industry source.
Blood, who was hired in September 2019 to oversee the minor leagues, was promoted to vice president of player development and domestic scouting in October 2023. He was named to his most recent post last November.
Blood supervised the amateur draft in 2024 and 2025 before Will Robertson took on those duties this season.
Late last year, at Blood’s recommendation, the Orioles hired former San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Shildt to serve as the team’s upper-level field coordinator, spending time at Triple-A Norfolk, Double-A Chesapeake and High-A Frederick.
Blood joined the Orioles in 2019 after working for the Rangers, USA Baseball and the Cardinals.
