Orioles trade Taylor Ward to Mariners for 3 right-handed pitchers

The Orioles traded outfielder Taylor Ward to the Seattle Mariners ahead of Monday’s 6 p.m. trade deadline. In return, the Orioles are receiving right-handed pitchers Alex Hoppe, Brock Moore and Harrison Kreiling.

Ward, who was obtained by the Orioles last November in exchange for starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez, hit .246 with a .730 OPS, 7 home runs and 30 RBIs. He leads the American League with 87 walks and has a .383 on-base percentage.

Last season, Ward hit 36 home runs and drove in 103 RBIs, so his power numbers were way down.

Hoppe is 0-1 with a 5.79 ERA in 24 games with Seattle this season. He has not yet been added to the 26-man and 40-man rosters.

Moore, a seventh-round pick in 2024, was 4-5 with a 3.72 ERA and four saves in 32 games with High-A Everett and Double-A Arkansas. Baseball America rated Moore Seattle’s No. 24 prospect.

Kreiling, a 17th-round pick in the 2024 draft, has a 1.69 ERA in four starts with the Arizona Complex League Mariners and Single-A Inland Empire.

According to published reports, the Orioles are discussing a trade of catcher Adley Rutschman to the Red Sox or Yankees.
