The Orioles won’t trade Gunnar Henderson | MAILBAG

Question: So there’s a lot of suggestions about who the O’s should trade to make the team better, but no one ever mentions Gunnar Henderson. He’s not been a big contributor for quite a while, and wouldn’t he bring a pretty good player to Baltimore? From: Bob Snyder

Answer: Bob, Michael Scott also has a question about trading Henderson. The Orioles aren’t interested in trading Henderson because they’re looking to contend this year and next year, and they think he’ll be a big part of their team.

Yes, he hasn’t played up to his capabilities, and he should bring a nice package, but the Orioles don’t have a player to replace him. I suppose they could move Jackson Holliday to shortstop, but if they’re serious about making a wild-card run, he’ll be a key part of the team. 

Question: The thing that has been gnawing at me is why there has never been any public discussions about extending Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson, the apparent would-be pillars of the rebuilding program? Have you ever heard rumblings to that effect? From: Jean Roussy 

Answer: Jean, there’s never been anything but public discussion about extending Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson because Mike Elias won’t discuss contracts publicly. He’s stated countless times that he won’t talk about it.

They’ve discussed extensions for Rutschman and Henderson privately.
