BALTIMORE—Orioles manager Craig Albernaz was hit by a foul ball off the bat of Jeremiah Jackson in the bottom of the fifth inning of the Orioles-Diamondbacks game Monday night. Albernaz was standing on the top step of the dugout, tried to turn away, but the ball hit him on the right side of the face.
He was immediately escorted down the runway by team personnel.
In a statement, the Orioles said that Albernaz was “evaluated onsite by medical staff,” and they said they would provide further information postgame.
He returned to the dugout after Jackson hit a grand slam to close Arizona’s six-run lead to 7-6. Albernaz gave Jackson a hug and soon left the dugout again.
