Would Orioles send Cowser to minors? | MAILBAG

Question: Will the Orioles consider sending Colton Cowser to the minors? His hitting hasn’t improved, and he still strikes out too many times. From: John Byrnes

Answer: John, I think the Orioles are committed to Colton Cowser. I don’t see them sending him to the minor leagues, and I don’t think there’s a viable alternative. Dylan Beavers isn’t nearly as skilled a centerfielder, and Leody Taveras isn’t close to being his equal as an all-around player.

Question: What’s the difference between assigning someone to a minor league camp vs. optioning them to the minors? From: Jim Fickel

Answer: Jim, players are now optioned to minor league camp instead of being assigned to specific teams during spring training because those assignments aren’t made until the end of spring training.

During the regular season, players will be optioned to specific teams.

Most weekdays, I’ll be answering at least one Orioles question. If you’d like to submit a question, send it to: Rich@BaltimoreBaseball.com. Questions may be edited for clarity, length and style.
