In need of a utility infielder, the Orioles claimed 24-year-old Marco Luciano off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday.
Luciano, who was claimed by Pittsburgh from San Francisco on December 5th, compiled a .217 average in 41 games with the Giants in 2023 and 2024. His most extensive big league action came in 2024 when he hit .211 with three RBIs in 27 games.
He’s played shortstop and second base in the majors.
In 2025, Luciano hit .214 with 23 home runs and 66 RBIs in 125 games for Triple-A Sacramento.
To make room for Luciano on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated outfielder Jhonkensy Noel for assignment. He was claimed off waivers from Cleveland on Monday.
Notes: Left-handed pitcher Josh Walker cleared outright waivers and was assigned to Triple-A Norfolk. On Tuesday, the Orioles signed left-handed pitcher Eric Torres to a minor league contract.
