Source: Pete Alonso’s power bat coming to Orioles for a reported 5 years, $155 million

ORLANDO—The Orioles will leave the Winter Meetings with a big bat after a big move. The Orioles have signed slugging first baseman Pete Alonso to a five-year deal worth $155 million, according to a report by ESPN’s Jeff Passan that was confirmed by an industry source.

Alonso is leaving the New York Mets, where he averaged more than 40 home runs a season in seven seasons.

The 31-year-old will provide the Orioles with another right-hand hitting power threat. Earlier the Orioles traded for 31-year-old outfielder Taylor Ward, who hit 36 home runs and drove in 103 runs for the Angles this past season.

No Oriole hit more than 17 home runs in 2025.

Alonso’s signing puts in question the future of Coby Mayo and Ryan Mountcastle with the team. It also significantly strengthens the team’s lineup, reducing the pressure on young core players Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, Jordan Westburg, Jackson Holliday and Colton Cowser.

Alonso, who played in all 162 games for the Mets the last two seasons, hit 38 home runs and produced 126 RBIs with a .272 average and an .871 OPS in 2025. He won the Silver Slugger in 2025.

He’s a five-time All-Star and won the Rookie of the Year in 2019.
