Free agent outfielder Leody Taveras is signing with the Orioles on a one-year, $2 million contract, according to reports by the New York Post’s Jon Heyman and Mike Rodriguez, a Spanish broadcaster.
The 27-year-old switch-hitting centerfielder hit .205 with three home runs and 17 RBIs and a .530 OPS in 58 games with Seattle and Texas this season. He stole nine bases in 12 attempts.
Taveras played in 151 games in 2024 with the Rangers, hitting .229 with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs and a .641 OPS with 23 steals in 29 attempts.
The Orioles must make room on their 40-man roster for Taveras, who didn’t play in the major leagues after June 7th. The Mariners sent him to Triple-A Tacoma, where he hit .280 with an .804 OPS, 11 home runs and 69 RBIs and 23 steals in 24 attempts.
