Orioles activate Tyler O’Neill from injured list

The Orioles have activated outfielder Tyler O’Neill from the 10-day injured list for their game at Toronto on Friday night. O’Neill had been on the IL with a right wrist injury. It was his third time on the injured list this season, and the 17th in his career.

O’Neill, who signed a three-year, $49.5 million contract with the Orioles last December, has an opt-out after this season, but he’s highly unlikely to exercise that clause.

He’s batting .210 with a .726 OPS, eight home runs and 23 RBIs in 43 games.

With O’Neill’s activation, the Orioles have nine players remaining on the injured list.

Interim manager Tony Mansolino hopes that catcher Adley Rutschman, infielder Jordan Westburg, catcher Gary Sánchez and reliever Colin Selby can play before the end of the season. Westburg is beginning a rehab assignment at Triple-A Norfolk on Friday night.

To make room for O’Neill on the 28-man roster, the Orioles optioned outfielder Daniel Johnson to  Norfolk. Johnson hit .208 in 17 games with the Orioles. He was mostly used as a pinch-runner and defensive replacement, and had a key bunt single in Wednesday night’s walk-off win over the Pirates.
